CUCM Answer File Generator

Tonight during one of my many late night upgrades from a Windows Call Manager 4.x to CUCM 7.x ( Linux ), I did the unspeakable….

During the Data Migration Assistant ( DMA’s ) final steps you can generate what is called an Answer File, which can pre-populate a CUCM with all the necessary info such as IP Address, Gateway, Subnet, NTP, Host name, all the necessary screens you go through when spinning CUCM.  It sounds like a pain but it’s fairly easy.  And best of all, it saves a HUGE amount of time.

Never fear, if you forget…  Cisco has a web page you can browse to for creating your own Answer Files.  It’s called the Answer File Generator.  The link is below:

http://www.cisco.com/web/cuc_afg/index.html

All you have to do is select your version of CUCM, and some options, and voila!

UCCX 7x Win 2003 OS Virtualized

One of the things I am asked the most is what is the easiest way to install UCCX in a VMWare environment. What this video will show you is how to convert a Standalone Windows 2003 Cisco approved OS to a VMWare image.

*** WARNING: This IS NOT Cisco TAC supported, and I would NOT recommend this for any situation other than a lab environment. What you will need is a copy of VMWare Converter, a working Cisco MCS Server which you can install the Cisco approved Windows 2003 OS on, and External HD with some decent space, and about 2 hours of your life to kill.

Installing CUCM Sub in ESX 3i Server

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to share my VMWare ESX 3i experiences with you regarding the CCIE Voice Lab. I am a candidate and one of the things I have done in order to prepare for the v3 lab is to stand up 3 ESX Servers. Each server is running 2 - 3 VM Images. Below is a video showing you the settings I used inside VM Infrastructure Client connected to a ESX 3i server to successfully install a CUCM Subscriber. I hope this helps someone out someday. At the bottom is also a link to the full Youtube video. There you can browse it in full screen mode.
