Tonight during one of my many late night upgrades from a Windows Call Manager 4.x to CUCM 7.x ( Linux ), I did the unspeakable…. 

During the Data Migration Assistant ( DMA’s ) final steps you can generate what is called an Answer File, which can pre-populate a CUCM with all the necessary info such as IP Address, Gateway, Subnet, NTP, Host name, all the necessary screens you go through when spinning CUCM.  It sounds like a pain but it’s fairly easy.  And best of all, it saves a HUGE amount of time. 

Never fear, if you forget…  Cisco has a web page you can browse to for creating your own Answer Files.  It’s called the Answer File Generator.  The link is below:

All you have to do is select your version of CUCM, and some options, and voila!

One of the things that often comes up in the heat of the moment when installing a production UCCX server is the often sore subject of Licenses.  More times then not, the customer or the pre-sales folks forgot or miscalculated the number of agent licenses, or worse case scenario, you sold Standard licenses when you need to do a database dip and you need a Premium license.  Well how do you remove the temp license once you have ordered and registered the legit key?

One of the things that often comes up when Redmond decides to upgrade their Windows OS is that often times Cisco client side Apps are NOT supported on the platform. 

Recently I attended a online training session as part of PACE ( Partners check that out! )Windows 7 Compatibility for Cisco UC Apps for UCCX 8, and Cisco actually supplied a document showing when full support would be announced for Windows 7. 

I am attaching a document to this blog which lists what Cisco client side apps will have full Windows 7 support and the date ( often the quarter ) in which that will happen.

I am please to announce the first of many video tutorials showing you how to use various technologies in and around the UCCX platform.  Eventually I hope to add videos in for creating basic, intermediate, and advanced scripts.  But for now we will take baby steps and start with the basics.  This is a four part video blog detailing out how to install, configure and setup, and navigate inside the CRS Script Editor which is the tool that is used to create Contact Center scripts.  Scripts are the “brains” of the call flow inside an IVR.

Video 1 – This video will show you the process to download and install the CRS Editor

Video 2 – This video walks you through the basic layout of the CRS Script Editor, logging in, etc.

Video 3 – Customizing the CRS Script Editor and creating a new script, editing variables, etc.

Video 4 – Wrapping it all up.

There should be a VAST array of questions inside each of these forums and you can drill into each one to be taken to the exact question as it was posted to Cisco.com. 

Several years ago a colleague of mine turned me onto what has become a daily ritual in my IT Life.  There is a section of Cisco.com called "NetPro" which was recently renamed to "Cisco Support Community".  The Community is an online repository of questions and answers that field engineers can post and get responses from other engineers/cisco.  It has been VERY useful throughout my career and I would encourage anyone to bookmark the link below as it may prove invaluable to you one day in the near future.
