Configuring UCCX7.0 with CUCM7.0 clustering over WAN
Hi There,
I wanted to ask a question on how to configure UCCX7.0 with CUCM7.0 clustering over WAN.
I am going to have cucm 7.0 sub and uccx7.0 in the same LAN, and cucm7.0 pub over WAN as a backup then the sub goes down, so i believe CTI Manager and CTI ports should be configured on both the sub as the first choice and on the pub as the second choice.
I believe I need:
1. Configure Service Provider with Publisher only (which will work over WAN)
2. Configure AXL Service Provider - sub and pub (sub backup over WAN)
3. RmCm Subsystem - RmCm Provider- sub and pub (sub backup over WAN)
Can someone confirm this is correct?
Also Solution Reference Network Design for Cisco Unified CCX and Cisco Unified IP IVR, Release 7.0 page 83/130 says: "The Cisco Unified CM servers running CTI Managers with which Cisco Unified CCX communicates must be located in the same campus LAN as the Cisco Unified CCX servers. The available bandwidth for these LAN links should always be considerably higher than the load, there should be no steady-state congestion, and the maximum round-trip delay between the servers should be less than 2 ms. So, JTAPI connection over the WAN is not supported at the moment"
Does it mean that i don't need to configure JTAPI and RM JTAPI with the pub because it simply won't work with a backup server (pub) over WAN as RTT will be over 2ms?
Many thanks for help in advance,
Tom

Configuring UCCX7.0 with
Tom,
I'm sorry it has taken me a few days to respond. I have been pretty swamped. There are some things you need to know about your design that WILL NOT WORK with UCCX 5.x or 7.x. Clustering over the WAN as you have mentioned is NOT currently supported in UCCX 5.x or 7.x. The CTI Managers ( JTAPI ) controll the call signalling, setup, and teardown of calls using JTAPI and they have to be in the same physical LAN. Cisco does NOT support remote CTI Managers from the LAN where the UCCX server will be installed.
So in laymans terms, no you cannot put your pub across the WAN and select it as a backup CTI Manager when you install UCCX. It's not supported officially from Cisco. The RTT will be greater than what is supported. JTAPI is a very chatty protocol.
I can tell you that I have met people who got it to work unofficially. They had dark fiber or some sort of Metro E connection between the two sites where congestion and delay wasn't really a factor. However, if something ever went wrong and you had to open up a TAC case it would not be a supported design and TAC would essentially tell you it's your fault.
UCCX v8.x will be shipping sometime in the Spring/Summer of 2010 and it will be the first version to support clustering over the WAN as you have specified you would like to achieve, if you can hold out till then, that may be your best bet.
Hope that helps,
Alex
